History of the association
Who are we?
Membership of the IRAHSSE started in 2010 and was made available to all countries and in 2011, there are already 100 members. These members are professors, researchers, doctors, and other experts or interested persons working within the field of history and social sciences education.
All teachers engaged in research fields linked to the association, or interested in its activities, are therefore invited to seek membership.
Focusing on History and Social Sciences education, with a privileged relationship with geography, the association remains open to fields of knowledge notably those of the sciences of education, the history of disciplines and their research as well as general interdisciplinary issues.
The IRAHSSE does not claim an exclusive definition of didactics. It sees itself rather as a cross road of trends, a meeting place where discussions and clarity is made on the different conceptions on didactics around our world, in respect of different views and the specific regional, linguistic and cultural contexts.
With the globalisation of cultural exchanges, the traditional relationship between traditional formations in education and citizenship is disrupted: Trans disciplinary and transnational is necessary. One of the key goals of the association is to support such debates under the framework of an accessible and genial structure that allow researchers from the four corners of the world to confront their findings and to disseminate them.
Goals and means
According to article 2 of its statutes, the main goal of IRAHSSE is as follows: “The association is interested in school construction and the public use of history and the social sciences. It encourages debates on the different perspectives to these issues.”
The association seeks to attend these objectives by giving itself the following plan of action:
To encourage the development and dissemination of research in History and Social Science didactics.
To encourage History and Social Science education through research, the elaboration and dissemination of the know-how in didactics; this includes the field of history of disciplines and school habits.
To support the training of an international network of expert researchers in didactics and field specialists as well as related disciplines.
To make easier the training of an ad hoc, in collaboration with members of the association around specific projects.
To offer venues and opportunities for information, meetings, debates, and sharing, through the organization of conferences and colloquiums.
To promote History and Social Science didactics as well as history and social education to the public and the authorities as much as in the scientific and scholarly communities.
To encourage the training of young didacticians and the development of research in under privileged regions of the world.
To support research into the public use of history and history transmitted through the media, on the systems of media and teaching.
